  So far this place is terrible. It's huge which may seem awesome but so far the people at the front desk were short and rude. I was asked to be 15 minutes early for my first time appointment. I was 20 minutes early and was not even spoken to except to be skipped on the list for someone who was running late. I have yet to fill out paperwork. It's now 20 minutes past my appointment time and we have finally been weighed and shown a room. I really hope my experience here improves because I used VCA in point Loma forever and loved it.

  I brought my dog here last night because he had been attacked by another dog and had multiple lacerations, bleeding and swelling on his leg. A tech was called from the back to assess him, she glanced at his leg and told the receptionist to get my info. When the receptionist asked her if they should put us in a room the tech responded, “They can wait. It’s nothing serious. “ We were told to sit in the waiting area and the receptionist proceeded to mop around us. The receptionist approached us after several minutes of us waiting and asked if my dog was aggressive. I tried to explain he is normally friendly but he was in a great deal of pain and wanted to be left alone. She approached anyway and he growled at her. She then turned to another patron and began joking and laughing “I thought he was nice. I guess not.” After 30 minutes of waiting with no other acknowledgement another couple walked in with a dog that had fallen into a bucket of water. The dog was clearly not in any distress but the tech rushed it to the back. After 15 more minutes with my dog whimpering in pain it became obvious that we were not going to get the compassionate treatment that the other patrons were getting. I took my dog and headed to Pet Emergency and Specialty Care in La Mesa. A tech came out to my car, assessed his leg and immediately rushed him to the back even though they were very busy. After my dog was already being treated VCA’s receptionist calls me to tell me she was about to put me in a room and hadn’t noticed we had left. I don’t know if it was me or my dog that they were not interested in serving but I definitely felt that there was preferential treatment to other patrons at VCA. I had ignored all of the negative reviews and wanted to give VCA the benefit of the doubt but clearly the reviews were accurate. Save your time and go to a place that will treat ALL patrons and their four legged family with the kindness and compassion they deserve. Go to Pet Emergency and Specialty Care in La Mesa instead.
